Editor's Message

Dear patrons and viewers of IACTA Echo library,

I feel extremely honored and delighted to write this message from the prestigious Editor’s desk of IACTA Echo library (IEL).

IEL has always been my professional home to echocardiography since my days as a fellow in cardiac anesthesia and to work in IEL has always been a dream and passion. The dream came true when I was offered to serve as an associate editor in IEL. My tenure as an associate to editor (2021 to 2024) has been extremely exciting, challenging at times and definitely gratifying. Thanks to the unwavering support and guidance of Dr. Deepak K Tempe (Chairman, IEL) and Dr. Rajesh Arya (Founder & Editor IEL) without which this would not have been possible. I would like to thank them personally and the IACTA for trusting me and giving me this opportunity to serve as the Editor of IEL. My sense of gratitude to Dr. Kumar Chidambaram (past editor, IEL), who is my mentor in echocardiography cannot be expressed in words. I would consider it as a privilege to take over the baton from him and accept this huge responsibility with extreme humility.

I am fortunate to have the assistance of a vibrant and enthusiastic team comprising of Dr. Kaushik Jothinath as senior associate editor and Dr. Naresh Kumar. T, Dr. Shekhar Suman Saxena as associate editors. All are board certified echocardiographers with a relentless passion to write about echocardiography. Their contributions to IEL have always been valuable.

The present activities of IEL include (1) Mid -week Quiz which is streamed live every Tuesday at 14.00 hours with the answers being provided the next day at 14.00 hours. (2) The monthly echo manuscript is published every Saturday at 8.00 AM. Both the activities are designed to cater the needs of students appearing for various competitive exams in perioperative echocardiography.

IEL- NEW HORIZONS

“It is our intention that the Journal meet a multitude of needs” – words of Dr. Feigenbaum.

Echocardiography is a continuously evolving imaging modality and to keep up the pace with the recent innovations, IEL would like to focus more on techniques on the trend such as deformation imaging, contrast echocardiography and Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS).

Some of the new features planned include:

  • • HOW I DO IT?: Short video loops demonstrating how to acquire echo loops and measure recommended echocardiographic parameters, to benefit fellows and beginners in cardiac anesthesia.
  • • QUESTION BANK: Compiling and archiving the published Mid-week Quiz and also to create mock tests for FTEE aspirants
  • • ECHO OF THE MONTH: Review articles related to echocardiography published in journals.
  • • GUEST LECTURES: Comprehensive video presentation on echocardiography topics by eminent faculty.

The Editorial board of IEL is always welcome to new concepts and feel free to contact us for further advancement of IEL.

Thanks & regards,

Hemamalini Palani
